The Freeman Lab is part of a multidisciplinary team that has been awarded an NSF RAPID grant, to explore the critical role of airway mucus in the transmission, infection, and spread of the COVID-19 virus. You can read more about this award at the Innovate Carolina website here.
While the world waits for a vaccine to the COVID-19 virus, it is essential that we better understand the mechanisms used by the virus so that we can anticipate and hopefully mitigate its spread. The Freeman Lab is excited to use this opportunity to learn more about the ways in which the virus takes advantage of lung mucus structure anomalies that increase vulnerability to infection.
